Formal Letter 1

You recently bought a piece of equipment for your kitchen but it did not work. You phoned the shop but no action was taken.

Write a letter to the shop manager. In your letter:

·        describe the problem with the equipment

·        explain what had happened when you phoned the shop

·        say what you would like the manager to do

Dear sir

I am writing to express my dissatisfaction with a non-stick pan that I purchased from your store and the poor customer service I received afterwards.

Last Wednesday, I purchased a ‘Wonderchef’ non-stick pan from your store. After I brought it home and tried to make a pancake on it, the batter got stuck on the pan and has not functioned as a non-stick pan since. I applied appropriate amounts of oil so that the batter does not stick, but the pan still did not work properly.

In a state of deep despair, I called the customer service where I was put on hold for twenty minutes. When the salesperson finally took the call, she was clueless about the functioning of the product purchased by me. She also claimed that she was not responsible for any problems that may arise after taking the product home. As this product caused me a fortune for its brand value, I am highly distressed with the poor quality of the product and the customer service.

I would be grateful if you could replace the non-stick pan with a new one as I have a two-year warranty on it. Further, I expect you to take strict action against the salesperson for being flummoxed about the situation.

I await your prompt service.

Yours faithfully

Catherine DaCosta
