As most people spend a major part of their adult life
at work, job satisfaction is an important element of individual wellbeing. What
factors contribute to job satisfaction? How
realistic is the expectation of job satisfaction for all workers?
The
gratification in a profession plays a primary role in an adult’s life, as a
majority of the people spend their time at work. This essay will first discuss
components which contribute to satisfaction of employees and it will then
deliberate the question of how pragmatic the expectations of job satisfaction
are, that workers experience at their organizations.
The factors which lead to job satisfaction include the fair treatment of
employees and the constant encouragement by co-workers and managers. This
impartial behaviour espouses both positivity as well as confidence in the
workers. Additionally, the motivating words by fellow mates at the company induces
fervour and gaiety, thereby leading to improved performances. In a survey
conducted by Indeed.com, 75% of members of the staff agreed that the
enhancement in their work progress was proportionately related to the praise
they received from their counterparts and business leaders.
The happiness
quotient in terms of job satisfaction cannot always be similar for each
employee. It is observed that a large number of workers are at the receiving
end of unfulfilled expectations, i.e. uncompetitive remunerations offered by the
employer against various standards. Although wages should not be the measuring yardstick
of one’s sense of contentment at work, the case in point does not portray that.
For instance, according to a recent survey carried out by the Unilever Group,
77% of households believed that they would be mentally at peace should they be
given compensations that are equitable and at par with industry standards vis-à-vis
their nature of work.
To conclude, I think
it is essential to be treated justly and to be accorded with pleasant behavior by
employees at all times, which directly contributes to a person’s satisfaction
at the workplace. Concurrently, guaranteeing fulfilment of prospects for each
employee will continue to remain a distant dream in the work sector because
none two are alike and never shall be.
