Technology, particularly the computer in modern day education
plays an extremely vital/pivotal role in developing occupational expertise and
life skills. However, there are pros and cons associated with this essential
component of our socio-economic infrastructure. This essay will outline the
main problem and give a possible solution.
The main problem with using the computer for extended
periods of time is that it brings upon us lifestyle and sedentary occupational
diseases. Immobility is induced by such occupations that it warrants a person
to be stuck and to stay put at one place with a much hinger intensity of
concentration than it would be required in an occupation where there is
movement. This results in the body having to adjust to various physiological
and chemical imbalances and inequities that give rise to the infamous diseases
of the modern world. For example. India with its high percentage of sedentary
workforce has emerged as the diabetes capital of the world.
For mitigating these kinds of irregularities, we should
have parental impositions and restrictions so as to enable the effective and
productive use of technology. For it is wisely said that excess of anything is
poisonous. Furthermore, parents and learning centers should encourage pupils to
develop self-control to help them cope compulsiveness and even addiction. For
example, we should reintroduce the traditional old-fashioned way of education;
pedagogy based on buddha’s educational philosophies of self-control and the
timely access to required things for work.
In conclusion, the main problem is lifestyle induced and
sedentary occupational diseases brought upon because of our occupational
pursuits. Fixing the educational system and reintroducing age-old methods and
approaches will divert pupils today towards a healthier lifestyle and they will
be relatively more active and physically more adequate. lifestyle changes may
take a conscious effort at first, but the value of being more physically active
helps in overcoming this.
