The use of technology has become paramount in the lives of
teachers and students. According to a stratum of society, computers create a
positive impact on the users whereas others believe that it brings about a
negative effect on the people who consume technology. This essay agrees that an
increase in the use of technology is beneficial to learners and their guides.
This essay will discuss both points of view.
The internet serves as a pool of knowledge for
learners and teachers alike. Access to information on any topic is just a click
of a button away for students. In such a fast-paced growing world, it is often
claimed that time is money and hence the requirement of facts and figures must
be available instantly. For example, a pupil may need the statistics for a
particular project in a short span of time and going to the library and
searching for the data might not be an efficient option. Thus, the computer world
web serves as a great boon for accessing and foraging information with specific
keywords to hasten the accuracy and volume.
On the contrary, many disagree and state that
instantaneous availability of information breeds plagiarism. Copying
information from the internet leads to over dependence on technology.
Furthermore, it may give rise to conditions where these young adults begin
displaying poor and dull cognitive functions leading further on to a state
where they are prevented from thinking independently. For instance, websites
like Britannica.com provide a wide variety of data to the surfers. Students
often duplicate the facts from the website without applying their own logic to
a particular theme given by the teacher. Ergo, this leads to an inability of
providing authentic project work.
Although the computer brings information served
on a plate for students, plagiarism which is a result of the computer, unfortunately
promotes lack of originality in their work. However, as long as we encourage
independent thinking, the use of computers resulting in the ease of access to
data for varied purposes surpasses the disadvantages caused by indiscriminately
copying texts verbatim of the internet.
