Computers are being used more and more in education. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages and give your own opinion.
It is argued that the prolific use of technology is the
new normal in the education system. This essay will firstly discuss students’
access to knowledge at the click of a button as the primary merit and secondly,
outline the adverse effect on the health of students as the main disadvantage.
One of the main advantages of technology is to have all
the information provided to you within seconds. The internet in all its wonder
is an ocean where students can access knowledge at their fancy. For example,
during project-based learning, pupils enjoy the advantage of using the internet
and completing their work on time. This has resulted in making scholars
responsible for the data which they accumulate and submit to their teachers,
thus increasing the percentage of originality.
The main demerit of the excessive use of technology can
lead to unfavorable health conditions. Long hours of research on a laptop is
not only physically stressful/traumatic but injurious if it is extended and
continued. For instance, according to a survey conducted by a group of
scientists, pupils have developed cervical conditions of varying degrees owing
to endless hours at the computer. The researchers believe that such states
could have been avoided if the scholars’ parents would have monitored the
screen time. This further has resulted
in the absence of robustness in learners’ day to day life.
In conclusion, the merits technology brings to education,
such as the provision of information within seconds among a plethora of other
advantages overpowers all the drawbacks including even the most concerning; the
negative impact on health. However, if what is to be done is done with prudence
then there is absolutely no reason why the computer should be seen in bad
light.
