A lot of places in the world rely on tourism
as a main source of income. Unfortunately, tourism can also be a source of
problems if it is not managed correctly.
Describe the advantages and disadvantages of
tourism in the modern world. Do you think that benefits of tourism outweigh its
drawbacks?
It is a known fact that tourism is very crucial for world
economy and it is a very important industry of the 21st century.
Tourism is a double literally a double-edged sword. This essay will outline the
diversities that tourism offers as the main merit and the loss and vandalism of
old monuments as the main disadvantage.
India as a nation is a very diverse state with
diametrically opposite castes, creeds, races, sexual orientations,
socio-economics, physical statistics and ideologies. India is a completely
heterogeneous nation state and it is indeed different from almost all the
homogeneous countries across the world. There is no particular caste, creed or
race in India. For example, every hundred kilometres that we travel in India is
a new place altogether. The language, the castes, the beliefs, the customs and
the traditions among other things all change. This has resulted in India being
known as the most eclectic nation in the world and that India cannot be
described but felt. India is an experience and one has to be there to know
it.
On the contrary, inconsiderate tourism has its share of
demerits like loss and vandalism coming about from stealing, pilferage and
smuggling of historical artifacts and the poor use of tourist sites. Many
tourists are very oblivion to the mess and improper use of the premises they
visit and are careless and do not respect the heirlooms of these nations. Some
even go as far as totally destroying the places of interest without the least
worry. For example, there have been frequent reports of classical paintings and
national treasures being pilfered and smuggled from exhibitions and museums
across the world. As a result, many of these places which would have been
otherwise open to the general public have now been reserved for a few and many
have shut down their viewing altogether.
In conclusion, tourism is definitely and amazing industry
and also an awesome way to get to know people and cultures from across the
world. Furthermore, tourism if handled and managed well is a beautiful
vocation. However, it has its pros and cons and, in my opinion, I completely
believe that the advantages of tourism as a whole far outweighs the
disadvantages for it just needs better supervision and foolproof management.
