According to a recent study, the more time
people use the internet, the less time they spend with real human beings. Some
people say that instead of seeing the internet as a way of opening up new
communication possibilities world- wide, we should be concerned about the
effect this is having on social interaction.
How far do you agree with this opinion?
Recent studies have shown that the usage of the internet
has had negative impacts on human relations, and this has visibly marred the
spontaneous interactions that humans as a social being are accustomed to. I completely agree with the above stated
opinion and this essay with outline the following reasons for my agreement;
firstly, poor social time and secondly lifestyle induced
physical anomalies have started to plague the human species.
The computer instead of opening up a breadth of
opportunities for humans to profit from has as a matter of fact conversely
affected their social time. People these days have proportionately lesser time
for interaction versus the generations before them. Millennials today are glued
to their visual devices across mediums, it’s not only the computer that is
contributing to this phenomenon but practically all video enabled devices. For
example, children and adults across the world are invariably seen to be keeping
to themselves and bent over in their electronic devices, at airports, malls,
parks, at home, in the living room; almost everywhere and so much that it is
very rare to find people talking these days.
Secondly, and furthermore, the more disturbing fact of the
overuse of the computer is but the induced physical infirmities that have crept
up and has started menacing an entire community of sedentary occupation
employees. People are bound to their chairs and desks for long periods of time
and sometimes to even the full length of a working day; this is nothing but an
invitation to lifestyle related diseases. After all, man is but an animal and
requires its quota of physical engagement to stay fit and adequate.
For example, it isn’t uncommon to hear people these days suffering with
diabetes at thirty and forty, whereas, this was heard of with people in their
late sixties or seventies.
In conclusion, as much as the computer might have spelt a
boon for mankind and the extent of closeness it has brought the world to, it
has also quite unwittingly brought a can of Pandora’s problems along with it
and has opened up spaces in health ailments that were unheard of. I reiterate,
it would be prudent to understand these pros and cons and then go about the use
of the computer. Despite all the contradictions, the positives of the computer
still outweigh the negatives.
